No shady Christians

“God is light and He doesn’t cast shade” (James 1:17, my paraphrase).

There is nothing shady or shifty about God.

We are His children.

We shine His light.

Too many Christians excuse their poor behavior, saying, “It’s just the way I am,” or “My whole family is that way.”

We are born from above.

God’s light doesn’t cast shadows.

If we were wondering what the writer was referring to, he gives us an example:

Anger.

Quick anger never shines God’s light.

It blocks others from seeing Him.

Live transparently so others see Jesus clearly.

In fact, “get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives” (James 1:21, NLT).

How do you do that?

You’ll do it when you “humbly accept the message God has planted in your hearts, for it is strong enough to save your souls” (James 1:21, NLT).

God’s light is bright enough to control your tongue.

If your mouth is casting shade, your religion is worthless (James 1:26).

Want to shine brightly? Help some orphans and widows (James 1:27).

“So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.”
